Guardians of the Wall Guardians and Hero Roles
The three combat jobs Boiling Bits has actually named.
This hub is the character section of the wiki. Guardians of the Wall sells unique heroes with distinct combat styles and customizable skills. What it has not sold — yet — is a twelve-name roster with ultimates and voice lines. Until that list exists, we group heroes the way Steam does: brutal frontline fighters, ranged specialists, and elemental casters. Use this page to pick a job, then open the deep dives.

Ranked opinions live next door on the hero tier list. Read those as pre-release seats, not as a live-service patch bible.
Why “hero” and “Guardian” both appear here
Steam uses both words. You are a Guardian in the fiction. You also unlock “new heroes” with resources and essences. In practice they are the same object: a playable body with a melee-gun mix, an ability identity, and an ultimate. This hub uses Guardian for the fantasy and hero for the loadout, because that is how players will search.
Character customization is a Steam tag. Do not confuse it with a full transmog essay. We have no dye list. We have silhouettes: a horned heavy with fur and a shotgun, a lighter runner in a cabin yard, and whatever the playtest unlocks on 3 September 2026. When a name is official, it goes on the roster page the same day as the updates hub.
How to pick a first hero
Ask one question: what wipes you in other horde games?
- If you die because nobody is holding the street, take a frontliner. You will live in melee, block, and the ugly end of a palisade.
- If you die because runners reach you while you reload, take a ranged specialist and learn grenade timing from combat and controls.
- If you die because nothing staggers, take an elemental caster and treat the off-hand lash or elemental kit as crowd control, not as a highlight reel.
Solo players should bias frontline or sticky ranged. Four-player groups should read the co-op guide and not quadruple-stack the horned shotgunner from the trailer. The Wall has enough of those in the thumbnail.
Unlocks and awakening
Steam’s progression sentence is the whole unlock model we can document: collect resources, essences, and rare materials to unlock weapons, upgrade abilities, and awaken new heroes. There is no public hero shop price. There is no public “play three raids to unlock caster.” Spend playtest currency as if it might reset — because Boiling Bits has not promised carry-over to the Q1 2027 release. Details on sinks sit in weapons and items. Access sits in How to Join the Playtest.
If the playtest only gives you one body, master it. A second hero is a luxury. A third is how you own five unfinished kits and still cannot dash.
What this hub refuses to do
We will not publish a fake name like “Kael the Ember” and then rank him S-tier. We will not copy a mobile game’s guardian list. We will not treat the shirtless runner as a confirmed separate class until Boiling Bits says so; he might be an armor state, a different hero, or a cinematic double. The roster page labels uncertainty instead of hiding it.
When the playtest overlay shows a hero select screen, screenshot it. That grid is the real wiki. Until then, three jobs, two visible silhouettes, and a build page that talks about verbs rather than talent rows is the honest version of a character hub.
If you already know your job, skip to hero builds and then to raids and bosses so the kit has a place to live. If you do not, stay on the Guardian roster and pick the failure you are willing to own.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How many heroes are in the game?
Boiling Bits has not published a count. Steam promises multiple unique Guardians and three combat styles. The playtest may ship a subset.
Where do I see abilities?
Official copy mentions distinct combat styles, customizable skills, and ultimates. Concrete kits are on Guardian roster as observed, not as leaked skill trees.
Should I main one hero in the playtest?
Yes. Playtest time is short and progress may not carry to Q1 2027. Master one job, then branch.
Is there character creation?
Steam lists character customization, not a full sliders-from-zero creator. Expect selectable Guardians more than a blank doll.
