Weapon Tier List

This weapon tier list ranks types, not SKUs. Boiling Bits has not published a named arsenal. Steam has published a mix: melee, ranged, grenades, abilities, plus mid-run weapon modifications that may apply elemental effects. Screenshots add a pump shotgun, a back-slung blade, explosive packets, and a blue energy lash. That is the whole evidence locker. If a website shows you a “Void Piercer +12” for this game, they made it up.

Use this page to decide what to upgrade in the Bastion. Use weapons and items to know which of those upgrades will still exist tomorrow. Use hero builds so the rank becomes a spend order.

Current snapshot (September 2026)

S — Shotgun-style firearms
The public footage is built around a cone of buckshot in third person. Trailer comments noticed it immediately. In a village of runners, a cone is kinder than a precision rifle nobody has shown. S-tier for the playtest means “if you upgrade one gun, upgrade this.” It does not mean every other firearm is trash; we have not seen them.

S — Dash as a weapon
Dash is a movement verb on the combat page, and it is also how you win. A beautiful shotgun that you cannot leave a grab with is a paperweight. If the Bastion lets you upgrade dash, treat that upgrade as S-tier gear.

A — Melee blades and heavy swings
Half the pitch. If you never unholster the blade, you are not playing Guardians of the Wall; you are playing a cover shooter in a game that does not want cover. A-tier because density still wants a grenade, and because a slow heavy swing in a doorway is a wipe. Fast melee is A. Slow melee is B until you prove the stagger is worth it.

A — Grenades
Named, shown, essential. They are A instead of S because friendly fire and bounce geometry will punish a sloppy four-stack. A good grenade is a pack delete. A bad grenade is a co-op argument. Upgrade count if villages overwhelm you.

B — Off-hand elemental lash / ability
The blue energy in the forest screenshot is the most interesting unpublished tool in the game. It might be a pull, a slam, or a caster kit leaking onto a frontliner. B until we know the cooldown. Do not skip it. Do not build your identity on it until the playtest overlay names it.

B — Session weapon mods (elemental rolls, damage stacks)
Powerful in the raid, gone at the Bastion door. They are B as a plan because you cannot rely on them. They are S in the moment you get a fire roll on the shotgun. The raids and bosses greed policy tells you when to click.

C — Unseen precision rifles / novelty heavies
We have not seen a sniper. We have not seen a minigun. Ranking them is how fake wikis get born. They sit in C as “do not wait for this to start playing.” If the playtest adds one, it will be reranked with a date on the updates hub.

How to spend against this list

  1. Make your current gun or blade feel finished.
  2. Buy dash or grenade next, whichever saved a wipe.
  3. Then ability cooldown.
  4. Then a second weapon type.
  5. Never spend a rare material on a C-tier fantasy item that is not in the client.

If two types are S, you still only have two hands. Frontliners should keep melee as the heart and the shotgun as the panic button. Ranged specialists invert that. Casters should not sell the gun; they should sell the idea that the ability is their only weapon. Steam’s mix is the point.

Mid-run mods can lie to you

A B-tier lash with an S-tier session damage stack will feel like the whole game. Then it will vanish. If that high is the only reason you like the kit, your Bastion build is empty. Write down what still worked after extract. That remainder is your real rank.

Block upgrades are not weapons, but they steal deaths from weapons. If a crushing blow is ending you, a block upgrade can outrank a new gun for a week. The combat page is allowed to overrule this list.

After named weapons exist

We will split this article into a type overview and a named table. Rarity colors, if they exist, will get their own column. Until that patch, refuse spreadsheets. A short type list that matches Steam is more useful than a long fake armory.

For which job should hold which type, go back to the hero tier list. For how to get the loot that feeds the ranks, stay with raids and bosses and Getting Started.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What is the best weapon in Guardians of the Wall?

In public footage, a shotgun-style firearm plus a melee weapon you actually swing. Named best-in-slot items do not exist yet.

Should I ignore melee if shotguns are S-tier?

No. The game is sold as a mix. Melee is A-tier on purpose. A gun-only plan fights the design.

Are grenades worth upgrading?

Yes, especially if village density is wiping you. They are A-tier tools with friendly-fire risk in co-op.

Will raid elemental mods stay on the gun?

Assume no. Steam says session upgrades do not all return to the Bastion. See weapons and items.
