Guardians of the Wall April 2026: Steam Page and Trailer
How the game went public — and what that post still asks you to test.
Before the September 2026 playtest there was a quieter beat: Boiling Bits put Guardians of the Wall on Steam and let IGN run the announcement trailer. This article is the dated record of that launch. It is not a patch note. It is the moment the two-developer team asked the internet whether melee-plus-firearms felt right.
What shipped in April 2026
- Steam app 3575220 went live with the full about text: Bastion, raids, session upgrades, four-player online co-op, solo, English audio, Windows only, Q1 2027 window.
- 13 April 2026 — IGN posted the official announcement trailer (the cut embedded on Getting Started). GameTrailers ran the same footage the same day.
- Studio Reddit posts (including r/IndieDev and r/IndieGaming) introduced the team as two people, more than a year in, almost no budget, asking for combat-feel feedback rather than marketing quotes.
- WorthPlaying and other outlets mirrored the Steam feature list and PC-only status in mid-April.
ModDB/IndieDB already carried a studio-uploaded gameplay reveal file. The public YouTube cut that matters for this wiki is the IGN trailer. We do not embed three copies of the same 78 seconds.
What the studio actually asked
The useful sentence is not “wishlist now.” It is: does mixing melee and firearms feel chaotic and brutal in a good way, or does it feel off. That question is still the playtest homework. If you get a key, run one melee-forward raid and one gun-forward raid and write Steam notes in that language. See combat and controls and the first look.
Comments on the trailer are a mood board, not a design doc. God of War camera, shotgun viking, “where is the roguelike,” “PC only so my friend is out” — we filed those on the first-look page so this news article can stay a timeline.
What did not ship in April
- A price
- A day inside Q1 2027
- Named heroes or bosses
- A public Discord we can verify
- Console SKUs
- A promise that later playtest progress would carry to 1.0
Those absences are still true as of this writing unless a newer Steam news post says otherwise. The updates hub is the index. Do not treat an April trailer as a September patch.
How this beat connects to September
On 28 August 2026 Steam news said the first playtest starts on 3 September 2026. That is the next official date after the store went live. Access is still Request Access, explained in How to Join the Playtest and wishlist and access.
If you wishlisted in April and heard nothing, request again. Steam playtest widgets keep “we will notify you” language even after a wave starts. April enthusiasm does not equal a key.
Why this page exists on a wiki
Upcoming-game wikis bury the store launch inside a generic “news” blob. We keep it separate so Getting Started can stay a how-to, and so the playtest article can stay about the 3 September tap. When Boiling Bits posts the next Steam news item — a second wave, a date inside Q1 2027, a hero name — it gets its own dated file. This one stays April.
Press kit and studio site remain on the links hub. Biomes named in the April store copy are unpacked on Bastion and map. Jobs named in that copy live on the Guardian roster.
If a sentence on this site ever sounds like 1.0 has shipped, it is a bug against content/facts.json. The April announcement made a store page. It did not make a release.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
When did the Steam page go live?
April 2026, with the IGN trailer on 13 April. The playtest is a later beat: announced 28 August 2026 for a 3 September start.
Is the IGN trailer different from GameTrailers?
No. Same announcement cut. This wiki embeds the IGN upload once, on Getting Started and the home trailer.
Did the studio ask for anything specific?
Combat feel: whether melee mixed with firearms works. That is still the highest-value playtest report.
Where do I go after reading this?
Request access with the playtest guide, then Getting Started if you already have a key.
